CONGRATULATING GENESIS MOTORSPORTS-PREPARED TEAM SOUTH CAROLINA ON ITS SUCCESS IN THE INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SPORTS ASSOCIATION ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITION AND WISHING IT SUCCESS IN ALL FUTURE COMPETITIONS.
Whereas, the Genesis Motorsports-Prepared Team South Carolina BMW M3s, numbers 01 and 02, will be competing this year for the International Motor Sports Association Endurance Championship; and
Whereas, the team finished second at the recent 5 Hours of Sebring on March 15, 1996; and
Whereas, Genesis Motorsports Chief Executive Officer Rick Fairbanks is the primary driver for the team and Nick Ham is his co-driver; and
Whereas, Team South Carolina earned a third place finish at both Road Atlanta and Sebring, a fourth place finish at Watkins Glen, and a fifth place finish at Sears Point; and
Whereas, this year, Team South Carolina is racing at all nine International Motor Sports Association Endurance Championship races; and
Whereas, Velux Roof Windows and Skylights of Greenwood is sponsoring the team this season, while associate sponsors include Umbro USA, Fountainhead Water Company, Top Tec, F.A. McCluer, Carolina Orthopaedic Center, Just Sew Embroidery, and National Paintball; and
Whereas, Rick Fairbanks and his team have introduced a number of innovations to road racing including, using a transponder-based scoring system to maintain continuous timing results on the team's pit computer and the use of the Fast Nuts tire removal system; and
Whereas, the team has benefited from its association with Clemson University's Automotive and Motorsports Engineering Program, a consortium of students, faculty, companies, teams, and individuals associated with the field of professional auto racing; and
Whereas, the Clemson Consortium's Motorsports Laboratory assisted Team South Carolina in suspension development work. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Team South Carolina on its success in the International Motor Sports Association Championship competitions, and wish it continued success in all future competitions.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Genesis Motorsports Chief Executive Officer Rick Fairbanks.
