A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 53-5-55, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO HOLIDAYS FOR BANKS AND OTHER FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS, SO AS TO INCLUDE THE FRIDAY IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING EASTER SUNDAY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 53-5-55 of the 1976 Code, as added by Act 62 of 1993, is amended to read:

"Section 53-5-55. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, in South Carolina holidays for banks and savings and loan institutions shall be those holidays observed by the Federal Reserve Bank, and also the Friday immediately preceding Easter Sunday.

In addition to the holidays provided for in this section, the Governor may declare any other day or days of the year legal holidays for the institutions affected by this section whenever the Governor finds such additional holiday or holidays to be necessary or appropriate."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
