A BILL

TO AMEND CHAPTER 32, TITLE 59, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAM, BY ADDING SECTION 59-32-1 SO AS TO ADD THE PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM; AND TO AMEND SECTION 59-32-60, RELATING TO COMPLIANCE WITH CHAPTER 32, SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR ADDITIONAL DUTIES OF THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Chapter 32 of Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-32-1. The purpose of this chapter is to promote general good health practices and to reduce the incidence of sexual activity among school age youth."

SECTION 2. Section 59-32-60 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 59-32-60. The department shall assure district compliance with this chapter. In addition to the duties prescribed by this chapter, the State Board of Education also shall assure Department of Education compliance. Each local school board shall consider the programs addressed in this chapter in developing its annual district report."

SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
