A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 44-41-85 SO AS TO PROHIBIT THE USE OF STATE FUNDS TO PAY FOR AN ABORTION.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 44-41-85. (A) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no state funds shall be used to pay directly or indirectly for an abortion.

(B) For purposes of this section, `abortion' means the same as that term is defined in Section 44-41-10(a) of the 1976 Code of Laws."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
