A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND ADRIAN MCILWAIN, A SENIOR AT IRMO HIGH SCHOOL, FOR HIS RECENT COURAGEOUS ACTIONS IN PREVENTING AN ACCIDENT AND SAVING OTHERS FROM INJURY OR DEATH ON ST. ANDREWS ROAD.

Whereas, the General Assembly has learned of the recent actions of Adrian McIlwain, a senior at Irmo High School, in which he prevented an accident and saved others from injury or death on St. Andrews Road; and

Whereas, this brave seventeen-year-old was on his way home from class, when he saw a car in the right-hand lane of St. Andrews Road weaving and swerving; and

Whereas, when he approached this car in his own automobile, he noticed that the driver's eyes were closed, and she was slumped behind the steering wheel; and

Whereas, Adrian McIlwain pulled his own car off the road and began chasing the other car on foot. When he reached the other car, he reached inside and steered it off the road and stopped it by shifting the gears into park; and

Whereas, when help arrived moments later, it was clear that he had prevented an accident and perhaps saved the life of the driver of this vehicle who was a seventy-three-year-old West Columbia resident who was immediately taken to the hospital; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly congratulate and commend this outstanding young man for his unselfish actions which saved others from possible injury or death at a substantial risk to himself. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly hereby commend Adrian McIlwain, a senior at Irmo High School, for his recent courageous actions in preventing an accident and saving others from injury or death on St. Andrews Road.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Adrian McIlwain.
