A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 15-3-530, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO STATUTES OF LIMITATIONS IN CIVIL ACTIONS, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS IS TWO YEARS FOR CAUSES OF ACTION BROUGHT UNDER TITLE 42, UNITED STATES CODE SECTION 1983, OR TITLE 42 UNITED STATES CODE SECTION 1985.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 15-3-530 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 432 of 1988, is further amended by adding at the end:

"Within two years:

(1) an action brought under Title 42, United States Code Section 1983 or Title 42, United States Code Section 1985."

SECTION 2. The amendment to Section 15-3-530 of the 1976 Code, as contained in Section 1 of this act, applies to causes of action arising or accruing on or after this act's effective date.

SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
