EXTENDING THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF CAROLINA TO THE GREENWOOD HIGH SCHOOL "LADY EAGLES" VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACHES FOR A TRULY OUTSTANDING SEASON BY WINNING THE 1995 CLASS AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina are delighted to learn the Greenwood High School "Lady Eagles" Varsity Basketball Team recently won the 1995 Class AAAA State Championship; and
Whereas, the talented "Lady Eagles" finished the 1994-1995 basketball season with an outstanding 25-0 record; and
Whereas, the "Lady Eagles" Varsity Basketball Team included Rachael Butler, Tametrias Connor, Clenese Covington, Jessica Hawkins, Cissily Hunter, Angie Lanier, Crystal Murcier, Jennifer Pellin, Felicia Thomas, Stacey Turner, and Valerie Warren; and
Whereas, the team members' dedication, talent, persistence, and unity and the excellent coaching of Head Coach Sheila Rhodes, Assistant Coach Mike Hudson, and Assistant Coach Rebecca Anderson clearly paid significant dividends for the Lady Eagles by their winning this prestigious championship; and
Whereas, all year the Greenwood High Girls Basketball Team was focused on one goal, winning the State Championship; and
Whereas, on Friday night, March 10, 1995, with a capacity crowd at Carolina Coliseum there to watch, the "Lady Eagles" fulfilled that goal, defeating South Florence, 80-69, to take home the title; and Whereas, this was the highest scoring girls championship game in our State history; and
Whereas, the enthusiasm and togetherness engendered by the "Lady Eagles" are a source of pride, uniting the student body, faculty, staff, and supporters; and
Whereas, these true South Carolina champions and their many, many accomplishments are highly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Greenwood High School "Lady Eagles" Varsity Basketball Team of Greenwood on winning the 1995 Class AAAA State Championship.
Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be forwarded to Head Coach Sheila Rhodes and Greenwood High School Principal Drew S. Geoly.
