A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE HONORABLE JAMES M. WADDELL, JR., FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA TAX COMMISSION.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly note that their former colleague Senator James M. Waddell, Jr., of Beaufort has, since his retirement from the Senate in January, 1992, served with great distinction as a member of the South Carolina Tax Commission at the appointment of Governor Carroll Campbell; and

Whereas, in the historic restructuring act passed in 1993 the Tax Commission was reshaped into the South Carolina Department of Revenue and Taxation with the role of the commission eliminated effective February 1, 1995, to be replaced by a departmental director appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate; and

Whereas, Senator Waddell, during these years of transition in the governance of the commission, has done outstanding work bringing to bear his long years of experience with and encyclopedic knowledge of the state's tax laws gained as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so that they might express their appreciation for the public service of so distinguished a son of South Carolina whose career in both the legislative and executive branches sets an example for all those engaged in the high calling of public service. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, express appreciation to the Honorable James M. Waddell, Jr., for his distinguished service as a member of the South Carolina Tax Commission.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Honorable James M. Waddell, Jr.
