A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE MICHELIN COMPANY ON ITS TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF MANUFACTURING AND RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT IN THE UNITED STATES, AND COMMENDING MICHELIN, THE NUMBER ONE LEADER IN WORLDWIDE TIRE SALES AND TIRE TECHNOLOGY, FOR ITS NUMEROUS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND FOR STANDING AS THE EXEMPLARY BENCHMARK FOR ALL OTHER COMPANIES IN THE PALMETTO STATE.

Whereas, the Michelin Company decided to expand operations in the United States in the early 1970's and selected the State of South Carolina as its home; and

Whereas, Michelin opened its first United States manufacturing doors in 1975 in Greenville, then in Anderson, Spartanburg, and Lexington counties, and later positioned its research and development operations, a test track, and a major distribution center in this State; and

Whereas, Michelin made another commitment to South Carolina by locating its North American headquarters in Greenville in 1985; and

Whereas, Michelin now employs more than 9,000 persons in its South Carolina facilities and has invested $1.5 billion in this State, thereby significantly contributing to our economic growth and development; and

Whereas, Michelin is proactive in supporting education throughout this State and continually gives back to the communities in which it works; and

Whereas, Michelin's positive experiences have been influential in attracting other major enterprises to South Carolina; and

Whereas, Michelin and South Carolina have worked together as partners for progress and prosperity with a long-term view; and

Whereas, Michelin, on October 11, 1995, is celebrating its twentieth anniversary of manufacturing and research and development in the United States. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates the Michelin Company on its twentieth anniversary of manufacturing and research and development in the United States and commends Michelin, the number one leader in worldwide tire sales and tire technology, for its numerous contributions to the State of South Carolina and for standing as the exemplary benchmark for all other companies in the Palmetto State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Michelin Company.
