A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

COMMENDING CHARLES A. WHITEHEAD, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY FOR LEXINGTON COUNTY, FOR HIS EXEMPLARY PUBLIC SERVICE, EXTENDING BEST WISHES FOR MUCH HAPPINESS FOLLOWING HIS RETIREMENT FROM THIS POSITION AND DESIGNATING HIM A "SOUTH CAROLINA STAR".

Whereas, Charles A. Whitehead has served as Director of Public Safety for Lexington County since July, 1979; and

Whereas, as director, Mr. Whitehead had been responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the activities of a multi-division public safety department, which includes fire service, emergency medical services, emergency preparedness, and 911-telecommunications; and

Whereas, Mr. Whitehead's duties have included the delivery of emergency services to approximately 170,000 people distributed over 730 square miles; and

Whereas, his duties also have included working with 350 volunteer firefighters; and

Whereas, he was largely responsible for building Lexington County's Department of Public Safety and for making it the tremendous success it is today; and

Whereas, Charles Whitehead has been an exemplary public servant and the citizens of Lexington County greatly admire him for his abilities, hard work, vision, and dedication; and

Whereas, he is retiring from the position of Director of Public Safety in June, 1995; and

Whereas, his efforts and outstanding accomplishments over the years, in the view of the members of the General Assembly, have earned for him the designation of a "South Carolina Star". Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends Charles A. Whitehead, Director of Public Safety for Lexington County, for his exemplary public service, extends best wishes to him for much happiness following his retirement from this position, and proudly designates him a "South Carolina Star".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Whitehead.
