TO CONGRATULATE BURR T. BARNES, JR., OF AIKEN COUNTY UPON BEING SELECTED OUTSTANDING STATE RETIREE EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR AND TO EXPRESS APPRECIATION FOR HIS CONTINUED LOYALTY AND SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, on May 17, 1995, Mr. Burr T. Barnes, Jr., of Aiken County was named Outstanding State Retiree Employee of the Year for 1995; and
Whereas, this award is given annually by the South Carolina State Employees Association to one male and one female retiree who remain active in the South Carolina State Employees Association and who continue to put the public interest before personal concern and maintain the integrity, impartiality, and a sense of justice required of state employees; and
Whereas, Mr. Barnes dedicated his state career to the South Carolina Tax Commission and was employed there as tax auditor from February 4, 1952, until his retirement on July 1, 1982; and
Whereas, Mr. Barnes' involvement in civic, community, religious, and personal endeavors manifested exemplary professionalism and initiative and he consistently inspired others to achieve higher goals. He has been an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aiken, the American Cancer Society, the Aiken County United Fund, the Kiwanis Club of Aiken, the American Legion in addition to having served honorably in the military service; and
Whereas, Mr. Barnes continues to set up and run three golf tournaments yearly at Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, an activity he began in April, 1955, and remains active in various other civic, religious, and personal endeavors; and
Whereas, a former recipient of the Aiken Chapter South Carolina State Employees' Association Employee of the Year in 1982 and the South Carolina State Employees' Association Outstanding State Employee Award, it is fitting that Mr. Barnes now receive the Outstanding State Retiree Employee of the Year Award. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Mr. Burr T. Barnes, Jr., of Aiken County, upon being selected Outstanding State Retiree Employee of the Year and express appreciation to Mr. Barnes for his continued loyalty and service to the State of South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Barnes.
