TO CONGRATULATE THE SUMTER HIGH SCHOOL BOYS TRACK TEAM FOR WINNING THE 1995 CLASS AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO CONGRATULATE THE SUMTER HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS TRACK TEAM FOR AN EXCELLENT YEAR AND A FINE RUNNER-UP PERFORMANCE AT THE 1995 CLASS AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to learn that for the second time in five years the Sumter High School boys track team won the Class AAAA State Championship; and
Whereas, the Sumter boys were clearly the dominant team at the state meet held at the Weems Baskins Track of the University of South Carolina. The team qualified for every event but one and finished with a winning margin of sixty-one points over the second place team; and
Whereas, under the able leadership of coach Rut Dingle and several excellent assistant coaches, the Gamecocks have built a track program which is one of the finest if not the finest in South Carolina; and
Whereas, the Sumter High School girls guided by coach Carl Baker also competed at the state meet in Columbia and capped off an excellent season by finishing second in the state meet. At the state meet, Nichole Gamble of the Sumter girls set a national high school record in the triple jump with a jump of forty-four feet seven inches; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and congratulate each of these fine athletes for their accomplishments in track and field this season which have brought deserved credit not only upon themselves and their coaches but upon their school and county as well. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby congratulate the Sumter High School boys track team for winning the 1995 Class AAAA State Championship and congratulate the Sumter High School girls track team for an excellent year and a fine runner-up performance at the 1995 Class AAAA State Championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the boys coach Rut Dingle, girls coach Carl Baker, and the principal of Sumter High School.
