A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR THE BELOVED CAROLYN HEYMAN GOODSTEIN OF CHARLESTON ON THE OCCASION OF HER EIGHTY-FIFTH BIRTHDAY AND TO CELEBRATE HER RICH AND FULL LIFE AND WISH HER A FUTURE FULL OF GOOD HEALTH AND THE CONTINUED ENJOYMENT OF A LOVING AND DEVOTED FAMILY.

Whereas, Mrs. Carolyn Heyman Goodstein was brought into this world on July 4, 1910, born the daughter of Marion H. Heyman of Camden and Minnie Friedheim Heyman of Rock Hill; and

Whereas, Mrs. Goodstein is the granddaughter of Arnold Friedheim and Sophia Friedheim, a Founding Father of Rock Hill, a Confederate Veteran, and Premier Merchant; and

Whereas, Mrs. Goodstein is the mother of Marion G. Goodman of Charleston and former S.C. State Senator Arnold S. Goodstein of Summerville; and

Whereas, Mrs. Goodstein is the grandmother of Harold Heyman and Beth Hope Goodman of Charleston and Arnold S. Goodstein, II, Eve Schafer Goodstein and the late Carmel Ann Goodstein of Summerville; and

Whereas, Mrs. Goodstein is a graduate of Camden High School and Agnes Scott College and has been active as past President of the Sisterhood, Board Member and longtime Chairperson of the Hospitality Committee of Synagogue Beth Eloheim in Charleston; and

Whereas, Mrs. Goodstein is well known as a pioneer worker and past District President of the Parent Teachers Association and a former member of the South Carolina Migrant Workers Commission; and

Whereas, Mrs. Goodstein is revered in her faith community for her service as an active member of the Council of Jewish Women, Hadasseh, and a Founder of the Christian Jewish Council of Charleston;

Whereas, Mrs. Goodstein is uniformly known as a contributing member of her community and state, possessed of the highest principle and morality, a loving mother and grandmother, and a faithful friend. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly honor the beloved Carolyn Heyman Goodstein of Charleston on the occasion of her eighty-fifth birthday and wish her a future of good health and the continued enjoyment of a loving and devoted family.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Carolyn Heyman Goodstein.
