Amendment No. 9

Senators HOLLAND, SALEEBY, McCONNELL, MATTHEWS, STILWELL, MOORE, COURTNEY and JACKSON proposed the following Amendment No. 9 (JUD0009.001), which was adopted:

Amend the bill, as and if amended, page 91, beginning on line 5, by striking SECTIONS 3, 4, and 5 in their entirety and inserting therein the following:

/SECTION 3. Section 2-1-60 of the 1976 Code, as amended, is repealed. Effective with the 1996 general election and the primaries therefor, members of the Senate shall be elected from the districts enumerated in Section 2-1-65 of the 1976 Code, as amended by this act.

SECTION 4. Upon the effective date of this act, the President Pro Tempore of the South Carolina Senate is designated as the appropriate official of the submitting authority who is responsible for making submissions of the Senate reapportionment plan set forth in this act to the Chief, Voting Section, Civil Rights Division, Department of Justice, in compliance with Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, as amended, and Title 28, Part 51 of the Code of Federal Regulations.

SECTION 5. Except as otherwise herein provided, this act takes effect upon approval by the Governor./
