10     TO AMEND CHAPTER 7, TITLE 1 OF THE 1976 CODE, RELATING TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, BY ADDING
11     SECTION 1-7-85 SO AS TO PROHIBIT THE USE OF CERTAIN APPROPRIATED FUNDS AND TO REQUIRE WRITTEN
12     APPROVAL FROM THE STATE BUDGET AND CONTROL BOARD BEFORE THE ATTORNEY GENERAL MAY
13     CONTRACT ON A CONTINGENT OR OTHER BASIS FOR LEGAL REPRESENTATION; AND TO AMEND SECTION
14     1-7-150, RELATING TO THE ACCOUNTING OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL TO THE STATE TREASURER, SO AS TO
15     REQUIRE THAT ALL MONIES EXCEPT CERTAIN COSTS AWARDED TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA BY
16     JUDGMENT OR SETTLEMENT IN ACTIONS OR CLAIMS BROUGHT BY THE ATTORNEY GENERAL ON BEHALF OF
17     THE STATE OR ONE OF ITS AGENCIES OR DEPARTMENTS MUST BE DEPOSITED IN THE GENERAL FUND OF THE
18     STATE.
19     Amend Title to Conform

21     A.  Section 1-7-150 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:
22
23           "Section 1-7-150. (A) The Attorney General shall account to the State Treasurer for all fees, bills of costs, and moneys monies
24     received by him by virtue of his office.
25           (B) All monies, except investigative costs or costs of litigation awarded by court order or settlement, awarded the State of South
26     Carolina by judgment or settlement in actions or claims brought by the Attorney General on behalf of the State or one of its agencies or
27     departments must be deposited in the general fund of the State, except as required by law."

29     B.  This section takes effect July 1, 1998.
