A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO OFFER THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE GLENFOREST SCHOOL "BULLDOGS" BOYS' BASKETBALL TEAM OF LEXINGTON COUNTY ON CAPTURING THE 1997-1998 INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION CLASS A STATE BOYS' BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, Glenforest School is one of the leading independent schools in the South for students with learning disabilities whose graduates hold an outstanding record of eighty-seven percent acceptance to the college or university of their choice; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate are proud to have the opportunity to recognize the Glenforest School "Bulldogs" Boys' Basketball Team of Lexington County on their outstanding record of 23-8 during the 1997-1998 season; and

Whereas, the "Bulldogs" defeated Johnston 49-45 in overtime to capture the 1997-1998 Independent Schools Athletic Association Class A State Boys' Basketball Championship; and

Whereas, this accomplishment could not have been achieved without the leadership and excellent coaching ability of Head Coach William Knopf; and

Whereas, Butch Smith, who was severely burned last summer, led all scorers with nineteen points; and

Whereas, the "Bulldogs" have brought great pride and recognition not only upon Glenforest School and its enthusiastic students and supporters, but also to the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Glenforest School "Bulldogs" Boys' Basketball Team of Lexington County on capturing the 1997-1998 Independent Schools Athletic Association Class A State Boys' Basketball Championship.

Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be presented to Glenforest School Head, Dr. Glenda R. Sternberg, and Head Basketball Coach, William Knopf.
