A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 5-3-17 SO AS TO REQUIRE THE CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER OF A MUNICIPALITY PLANNING TO ANNEX PROPERTY TO NOTIFY THE CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER OF A MUNICIPALITY TO WHICH THE ANNEXING MUNICIPALITY IS CONTIGUOUS OF THE ANNEXATION BEFORE THE ANNEXATION IS COMPLETED.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 5-3-17. The chief administrative officer of a municipality planning an annexation must notify in writing the chief administrative officer of a municipality to which the annexing municipality is contiguous of the annexation before the annexation is completed."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
