A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE FAMILY OF SFC GERALD S. AND MIRIAM A. HANKS OF ANDERSON COUNTY FOR THEIR SELECTION AS THE FAMILY OF THE YEAR FOR 1996 BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD.

Whereas, SFC Gerald S. Hanks has served thirty-two years with Co. B, 151st Signal BN., South Carolina Army National Guard; and

Whereas, his wife Miriam A. Hanks has been an active member and currently serves as Treasurer of the Family Support Group of the Belton Army National Guard; and

Whereas, their efforts with the Family Support Group have resulted in the group's successful performance of its mission of outreach and support for the unit's families; and

Whereas, their contributions of time and money have included a twenty-foot Christmas tree for the retiree Christmas party, an Easter egg hunt and party for the guardsmen's children, adoption of two needy families at Christmas, providing entertainment for the reception following the change of command ceremony, and a welcome home party for the unit after annual training; and

Whereas, Miriam has accumulated, conservatively, 101 hours of volunteer service to the unit, in addition to her twenty-two year employment with Anderson County as Grant Administrator; and

Whereas, Gerald, who is a twenty-four year employee of the Torrington Company, currently as a heat treat technician, also is a charter member and assistant fire chief of the Ebenezer Volunteer Fire Department; and

Whereas, they are active members of Ebenezer Methodist Church in Anderson; and

Whereas, they are the loving parents of three sons, Jamie, John, and Matthew, also a member of Co. B. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina hereby congratulate the family of SFC Gerald S. and Miriam A. Hanks of Anderson County for their selection as the Family of the Year for 1996 by the South Carolina Army National Guard.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to SFC Gerald and Miriam Hanks.
