A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 44-1-250 SO AS TO REQUIRE THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL TO DEVELOP AND PROVIDE A HEALTH AWARENESS PROGRAM FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 44-1-250. The Department of Health and Environmental Control shall develop and provide for public schools a health awareness program. The program shall explain the state of public health in South Carolina and the importance of a healthy lifestyle including, but not limited to, good nutrition and exercise. To whatever extent possible, the program shall include volunteer local speakers who have achieved significant levels of personal fitness or who have overcome significant health problems."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
