CONGRATULATING THE LADY GATORS OF ESTILL HIGH SCHOOL OF HAMPTON COUNTY ON WINNING THE 1997 CLASS A STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the Lady Gators basketball team of Estill High School of Hampton County is the 1997 state champs in Class A girls basketball; and

Whereas, the Lady Gators finished the 1996-97 season with an amazing 29-4 overall record; the team was 12-0 in the conference (Region 5-A) for the season and won the Lower State championship, the conference (region) championship and tournament crown, and also the Battery Creek Classic championship; and

Whereas, the Lady Gators finished the season with a twenty-two game winning streak; and

Whereas, the Lady Gators have not lost a conference (region) game in five years, and the 1997 Class A state title was the first girls' state championship for Estill High in forty years; and

Whereas, the Lady Gators were guided by Head Coach Cecil Jenkins and a wonderful support staff; and

Whereas, the members of the Estill High girls basketball team demonstrated talent, hard work, determination, and unity throughout the 1996-97 season on their way to the Class A crown and are highly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates the Lady Gators of Estill High School of Hampton County on winning the 1997 Class A state basketball championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Lady Gators basketball team, in care of Head Coach Cecil Jenkins.
