A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING WALTER P. RAWL & SONS FARM AND THE MEMBERS OF THE RAWL FAMILY OF GILBERT, LEXINGTON COUNTY, FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO SOUTH CAROLINA AGRICULTURE AND FOR THEIR DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Walter P. Rawl & Sons Farm is a Gilbert-based agricultural enterprise in Lexington County; the Walter P. Rawl Farm, established by the late Walter P. Rawl, is a thriving nine hundred-acre fresh vegetable operation specializing in the production of collard greens, mustard greens, kale, turnip greens, summer squash, and green onions; and proudly serves and promotes agriculture through active participation in the South Carolina Department of Agriculture, the South Carolina Farm Bureau, Clemson University, and other entities; and

Whereas, the late Walter P. Rawl for many years was active in civic matters and always worked hard for the community; he provided land for Lexington High School in Lexington School District One; he served as a State Highway Commissioner for two terms and served on various boards representing the State Department of Agriculture and the State Farmers Market; and

Whereas, Mrs. Ernestine Rawl, widow of Walter P. Rawl, is the beloved and greatly admired matriarch of the Rawl family; her daughter, Mary Ellen Rawl ("Sue") Wingard represents the Eleventh Judicial Circuit with great distinction on the Agriculture Commission of South Carolina; her son Howard serves on the Board of Visitors of Clemson University; and

Whereas, the Rawl family has meant much to Gilbert and Lexington County and to agriculture and the State of South Carolina for many years, and we are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize this outstanding, public service-minded family and the Walter P. Rawl & Sons Farm. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognizes Walter P. Rawl & Sons Farm and the members of the Rawl family of Gilbert, Lexington County, for their outstanding contributions to South Carolina agriculture and for their dedicated service to the citizens of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Rawl family, in care of Mr. Howard N. Rawl, 518 Walter Rawl Road, Gilbert, South Carolina, 29054.
