EXPRESSING THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE FAIRFIELD CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL "GRIFFINS" FOOTBALL TEAM FOR THEIR EXCEPTIONAL SEASON AND ON WINNING THE 1996 CLASS AAA STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are very pleased to learn that the Fairfield Central High School "Griffins" Football Team were undefeated during the 1996 football season; and

Whereas, the Griffins posted 653 total offensive points, 43.8 average points per game, 108 total defensive points, and 7.2 average points given up per game; and

Whereas, in the First Round AAA Playoffs Fairfield Central defeated Manning High School 32-14, Timberland High School 43-6, and Dillon High School 39-15; and

Whereas, in the Lower State Championship the Griffins triumphed over Ridge View High School 51-0; and

Whereas, their last adversary for the 1996 Class AAA State Football Championship was Seneca High, which the Griffins soundly overcame with a 20-7 victory; and

Whereas, these fine young athletes were guided throughout the season by Head Coach Oliver "Buddy" Pough, along with Assistant Coaches Joe Watson, Mickey Crocker, Richard Starkes, Tim Corley, Tim Garifalan, Jerry Jackson, Ellerbee Hightower, Ezekial Washington, Dwayne Mack, Stephon Boyd, and Reginald "Raggie"

Shaw; and

Whereas, the members of the team are Kelvin Curlee, Marcus Coleman, Cedric Squirewell, Kenneth Lathan, Reco Brown, Scott Young, David Corley, Aaron Weldon, Brent Mack, Tony Robinson, Nathaniel Adams, Ervin Mack, Tyre Stevenson, George Sandidge, Ken Windham, Corey Davis, Dwayne Rhodes, Roscoe Simmons, Adrian Williams, Quincy Wicker, Marcus McDuffie, Nick Haas, La'Morra Strong, Bernard Mitchell, Ershaun Turner, Kenneth Johnson, Mike Hannon, John Adams, Brian Seabrooks, Brian Hannon, Chris Neely, Donald Trapp, Gregrey Ginyard, Randy Miller, Josh Scanlan, Stephon Stone, Tate Williamson, Ike McKinstry, Eric Collins, Walter Edmunds, Mitchell Feaster, Stephen Raley, Antwain Johnson, Justin Blackwelder, Chris Robinson, Heyward Smith, and Chris Thigpen; and

Whereas, the team members' dedication, talent, persistence, and unity, as well as the excellent coaching, clearly paid significant dividends for the Griffins by their winning this prestigious championship. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina hereby congratulate the Fairfield Central High School "Griffins" Football Team for their exceptional season and on winning the 1996 Class AAA State Football Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Oliver "Buddy" Pough and David Corley, Principal of Fairfield Central High School.
