A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING PLEASANT GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH OF MARION COUNTY ON ITS TWO HUNDRED FIRST FISCAL ANNIVERSARY AND COMMENDING THE CHURCH FOR ITS PERSEVERANCE IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY.

Whereas, in 1997 Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Marion County is commemorating its two hundred first fiscal anniversary; and

Whereas, since the establishment of this church in the late 1700s, it has been blessed with many staunch members who have possessed various talents that have helped the church to grow spiritually; the church has been blessed with eleven pastors and thirty-one deacons; the first pastor was the Reverend Joe Ham and the present pastor is the Reverend Dr. A. C. Robinson; and

Whereas, on November 7, 1995, a tornado flattened the church and left the church's hundreds of members without a place of worship; after meeting in a city-owned auditorium since that date, the congregation worked hard at building a new sanctuary, and, in 1997, dedicated a new church building; and

Whereas, the members of the church have demonstrated great faith and patience; the spiritual bond that has always held them together could not be destroyed by the forces of nature; today they are filled with joy because they have a new house of worship and because they stayed together and overcame nature's devastation. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Marion County on its two hundred first fiscal anniversary and commends the church for its perseverance in the face of adversity.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
