TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE MIDLAND VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL "MUSTANGS" BASEBALL TEAM OF AIKEN COUNTY ON WINNING THE 1997 CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the Midland Valley High School "Mustangs" baseball team of Aiken County picked the perfect day to play at its best with an exciting 11-9 win over the Cheraw Braves to capture the 1997 Class AAA state championship; and
Whereas, the Mustangs toughness saw them to a two-game sweep of the Cheraw Braves in their best of three championship series; and
Whereas, Head Coach Bruce Zuehlke and his assistant coaches, Shawn Barton and Steve Hibbetts, have brought tremendous recognition to Midland Valley High School by guiding their team to a school record thirty victories and the first state championship in the school's history; and
Whereas, this championship squad consisted of: Adam Herndon, David Kaney, Mikal Jones, Steve Brown, Josh Moyer, Bernard Stephens, Grant Newman, Zay Brown, Brandon Hair, Brandon Kelly, Brian Nappier, Chris Jones, Bert Kinard, Corey Bradshaw, Jonathan Nelson, Ryan Grey, Derrick Haltiwanger, Gary Busbee, and John Rooks; and
Whereas, the success of the 1997 Midland Valley High School baseball team has brought great pride and recognition upon Aiken County but also to the State of South Carolina; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly would like to publicly recognize and congratulate the Midland Valley High School baseball team, its coaches, and other school officials upon the successful conclusion of a memorable season. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Midland Valley High School "Mustangs" baseball team of Aiken County on winning the 1997 Class AAA state championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Bruce Zuehlke of Midland Valley High School.
