COMMENDING MRS. SARA FAYE OWENS HARDY OF RICHLAND COUNTY FOR HER OUTSTANDING SERVICE OF THIRTY-THREE YEARS TO PUBLIC EDUCATION AND WISHING HER ABUNDANT HAPPINESS FOLLOWING HER RETIREMENT FROM RICHLAND COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT ONE AS PRINCIPAL OF ALCORN MIDDLE SCHOOL IN COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, Mrs. Sara Faye Owens Hardy was born in Latta, South Carolina and attended Carver Elementary School and C.A. Johnson High School; and
Whereas, she attended Barber-Scotia College, Allen University, Columbia College, Clemson University, Morgan State University, and the University of Wyoming; and
Whereas, over the past thirty-three years Faye has assumed numerous roles in the public school system, including service as a teacher at W.A. Perry Junior High School and W.G. Sanders Middle School, Middle School Coordinator for Programs for Academically and Creatively Talented Students, Assistant Principal at Columbia High School, and Principal at Alcorn Middle School; and
Whereas, she has received many school and community honors which include: being selected twice as "Teacher of the Year" at W.A. Perry Junior High School and W.G. Sanders Middle School; being named Teacher of Outstanding Service to Adult Education and Outstanding Black Woman; receiving the Phi Delta Kappa Outstanding Service Award; having the Fairwold Middle School Golden Tiger Yearbook dedicated on her behalf; being listed in Who's Who in American Education (1984); being honored as an Outstanding Assistant Principal for the State of South Carolina by the National Association of Secondary Principals; and receiving the "Administrator of the Year" award from the South Carolina Association of Student Councils; and
Whereas, Faye has served in numerous leadership positions which include: member of the Executive Committee of the South Carolina Association of Secondary Administrators; Vice President of Phi Delta; Poll Manager for the Meadowlake Precinct; YWCA Board; Counselor for the South Carolina Association of Student Councils; member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority; member of the National Association of University Women; member of Children's Unlimited, Inc; Chairperson for Christian Education at Bishop's Memorial A.M.E. Church; and member of the National Roundtable of Urban Principals; and
Whereas, she is highly regarded as a professional educator and administrator and has had a distinguished career in public education; and
Whereas, Mrs. Hardy will retire as Principal of Alcorn Middle School on June 30, 1997; and
Whereas, her talents, abilities, dedication, hard work, and her devotion to public education merit special recognition; and
Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly
to pause in their deliberations to recognize the distinguished career and outstanding contributions to the life of this State played by a distinguished South Carolinian, Mrs. Sara Faye Owens Hardy. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend Mrs. Sara Faye Owens Hardy for her thirty-three years of outstanding service to public education and wish her abundant happiness following her retirement as Principal of Alcorn Middle School in Columbia, South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Hardy.
