TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE HANAHAN HIGH SCHOOL "HAWKS" SOCCER TEAM, COACHES, AND STAFF ON WINNING THE 1996-97 CLASS AA-A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to have an opportunity to recognize the Hanahan High School "Hawks" Soccer Team on their successful 1996-97 season; and

Whereas, the Hanahan High School Soccer Team captured the school's first boys' state title since the baseball team won three championships in 1973, 1975, and 1976; and

Whereas, when the final match was over, the Hawks had shut out the team that scored 20 goals in its two previous matches, claiming the state championship with a 2-0 win over the Chapin Eagles at South Carolina's Graveyard stadium; and

Whereas, Head Coach Ric Raycroft, along with Coaches Will Rives and Ed Weiler, rose to the occasion by hard work and perseverance after the Hawks lost 1-0 in last year's state final; and

Whereas, deserving of recognition this exceptional team consisted of Chris Branham, Todd Bullwinkle, John David Cutrell, Randy Cutrell, Billy Dietrich, Blake Easterling, Austin Huggins, Jordan Jackson, Brian Morros, Jason Parker, Bryan Powell, Derek Revord, Chris Richter, Adrian Smalls, Brent Sweatman, Yancey Tisdale, Ben Trussell, Jason Trussell, and Matt Woodford; and

Whereas, the success of the Hanahan High School "Hawks" Soccer Team has brought great pride to their school, community, and county in the manner they concluded their thrilling 1996-97 season. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Hanahan High School "Hawks" Soccer Team, coaches, and staff on winning the 1996-97 Class AA-A State Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Head Coach Ric Raycroft and Charlie Davis, Principal of Hanahan High School.
