A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING EDWIN S. TAYLOR ON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE CHARLESTON COUNTY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION.

Whereas, Edwin S. Taylor was appointed to the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission in 1989 and began serving as a member on July first of that year; and

Whereas, during Mr. Taylor's tenure, James Island County Park was opened to the public, a thirty-four million dollar bond was approved by the taxpayers, and one thousand fifteen acres of land was purchased for North Charleston County Park; and

Whereas, also during his service on the commission, seven hundred fifty-three acres of land was purchased for Johns Island County Park, three hundred eighteen acres was acquired for Edisto Island County Park, and one and four-tenths acres was purchased for Folly Pier; Isle of Palms County Park was opened to the public, as was Folly Pier; North Charleston County Park is under construction, Caw Caw Interpretive Center is being designed, Maritime Center is preparing to open, the Countywide Bikeways Plan is prepared, bikeways have been constructed at Folly Road and Needlerush Parkway, Coast Guard Base property has been acquired for the county park system of Charleston County, and the commission assumed jurisdiction of nineteen county boat ramps, thereby upgrading the total system; and

Whereas, Mr. Taylor is retiring from service on the commission on June 30, 1997; and

Whereas, his vision, leadership, knowledge, hard work, and determination have contributed tremendously in making the Charleston County park system one of the best park systems in South Carolina and in the entire South; he has contributed freely and generously of his time, talents, and resources for the improvement and growth of the park system, thereby enriching the lives of the good people of Charleston County and of tourists and visitors from the rest of South Carolina and other states and countries; he has been a dedicated and outstanding public servant and is highly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Edwin S. Taylor on his retirement from the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Edwin S. Taylor.
