TO RECOGNIZE THE 1997 SPRING VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SOFTBALL TEAM ON ENDING ITS OUTSTANDING SEASON WITH A RANKING OF NUMBER 3 AMONG AAA TEAMS, AND TO WISH THE TEAM MEMBERS AND COACHES CONTINUED SUCCESS.
Whereas, Spring Valley High School's 1997 Girls Softball Team had yet another outstanding season, finishing as the third best AAA team in the State of South Carolina; and
Whereas, under the leadership and encouragement of Head Coach Dwayne Jones and Assistant Coach Susan Jackson, the team compiled an overall record of 22-8, amassed a Region IV record of 12-2, winning the Region IV AAA Championship, and made it to the finals in the Lower State Tournament; and
Whereas, the individual members of the Viking's 1997 team include five players honored as "All Region Performers", those being Olivia Kellett, pitcher; Jina Kang, second base; Tisha Corral, catcher; Summer Coley, shortstop; and Cassie Lee, third base and center fielder; and
Whereas, each member of the 1997 Spring Valley Girls Softball Team made a major contribution to the success and accomplishments of the team; the individual members and their respective uniform numbers are as follows: Number 1, Sarah St. George; Number 4, Cassie Lee; Number 7, Jina Kang; Number 8, Summer Coley; Number 9, Lindsay Flemming; Number 10, Olivia Kellett; Number 11, Laura Cambre; Number 12, Tisha Corral; Number 14, Amanda Peake; Number 15, Jessie Peake; Number 16, Kara Borgmeyer; Number 17, Nancy Haig; Number 18, Brandi McNair; Number 21, Stacey Kelly; Number 22, Jennifer Bessinger; and Number 25, Erika Ferris; and
Whereas, this 1997 team continued the tradition of excellence in women's high school softball by posting its sixteenth consecutive twenty-plus win season, its tenth straight finish in the top five in state rankings, and its fourteenth Region Championship; and
Whereas, these remarkable accomplishments reflect great credit upon these young women, their coaches, their school, including its principal, Dr. Ron Cowden, and their parents, as well as the northeast Columbia and Richland County School District Two communities which supported their efforts throughout the season so well. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina do hereby recognize the 1997 Spring Valley High School Girls Softball Team on ending its outstanding season with a ranking of Number 3 among AAA teams, and wish the team members and coaches continued success.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Spring Valley High School Girls Softball Team in care of Dr. Ron Cowden, Principal, Spring Valley High School.
