A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 56-3-1230, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE DESIGN AND SPECIFICATIONS OF LICENSE PLATES, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE DESIGN, LOGO, BACKGROUND, DISTINCTIVE MARKINGS, AND WORDING OF ALL PERMANENT LICENSE PLATES, EXCEPT FOR NUMBERS AND YEARLY DESIGNATIONS THEREON, ISSUED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY MUST BE FIRST APPROVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY BY CONCURRENT RESOLUTION BEFORE THE PERMANENT LICENSE PLATES MAY BE ISSUED TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 56-3-1230 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding an appropriately numbered subsection to read:

"(C) The design, logo, background, distinctive markings, and wording of all permanent license plates, except for numbers and yearly designations thereon, issued by the Department of Public Safety after the effective date of this subsection, must be first approved by the General Assembly by concurrent resolution before the permanent license plates may be issued to the general public."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
