A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE HONORABLE JOHN PETER RICHARDSON FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF SUMMERTON UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE COUNCIL.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives have learned with regret that the Honorable John Peter Richardson will conclude his service this year as a member of the town council of the Town of Summerton after eight years of dedicated service; and

Whereas, Mr. Richardson became a member of the council on April 10, 1990, and will complete his service on May 12, 1998. During his tenure on the council, he served as Chairman of the Police Committee, overseeing the operations of the Police Department; a member of the Street and Water Committee, and a member of the Fire Committee; and

Whereas, he is a graduate of The Citadel and his distinguished career

of public service continues a long family tradition of service to South Carolina. His fair and even-handed treatment of all citizens has earned him the respect and admiration of all those with whom he came into contact; and

Whereas, he is president of the community's oldest ongoing business, The Carrigan Insurance Agency of Summerton, founded in 1906; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and commend this truly outstanding South Carolinian for his service to Summerton on the occasion of his retirement from its town council. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives hereby commend the Honorable John Peter Richardson for his distinguished service as a member of the Town Council of the Town of Summerton upon his retirement from the council.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Honorable John Peter Richardson.
