A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING SENIOR MASTER SERGEANT CHARLES S. BEAM, AEROSPACE SCIENCE INSTRUCTOR AT SPRING VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL IN RICHLAND COUNTY, UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE AIR FORCE JUNIOR ROTC AFTER TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE.

Whereas, Senior Master Sergeant Charles S. Beam, aerospace science instructor at Spring Valley High School in Richland County, is retiring from the Air Force Junior ROTC after twenty-seven years of outstanding service; and

Whereas, Sergeant Beam served the Air Force Junior ROTC for thirteen years at C. A. Johnson High School in Columbia and for fourteen years at Spring Valley High School; and

Whereas, Sergeant Beam has taught 5,000 young people the life values of discipline and leadership; and

Whereas, as drill team coach he has won sixteen Air Force state drill championships, six all services South Carolina drill championships, three southeast drill championships, two national drill championships, and numerous other drill meets; during his twenty-seven years with the Air Force Junior ROTC at C. A. Johnson and Spring Valley he has won 850 trophies for finishing in the top positions, and in 1998 alone the Spring Valley Drill Team won fifty-five trophies under Sergeant Beam's leadership; and

Whereas, Sergeant Beam is an outstanding individual and a superb leader and teacher; he has touched the lives of thousands of young people; he has made countless contributions to the excellence of Air Force Junior ROTC and is highly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognizes Senior Master Sergeant Charles S. Beam, aerospace science instructor at Spring Valley High School in Richland County, upon his retirement from the Air Force Junior ROTC after twenty-seven years of outstanding service.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Sergeant Beam.
