A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND HENRY J. CAUTHEN, PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA EDUCATIONAL TELEVISION NETWORK, FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO EDUCATIONAL TELEVISION AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPON HIS RETIREMENT.

Whereas, Henry J. Cauthen, President of the South Carolina Educational Television Network, has committed his life's work to developing and implementing a world-renowned educational television network; and

Whereas, Mr. Cauthen was one of the founders of South Carolina ETV as an experiment in educational television at Dreher High School in 1958, and he became president of the South Carolina Educational Television Network in 1965 and led the agency through thirty-three years of tremendous growth and success; and

Whereas, he directed the development of ETV's statewide transmission network establishing eleven television transmitters, including four regional stations, eight radio transmitters, a statewide ITFS network and microwave system, and a thirty-two channel digital satellite system; and

Whereas, Henry Cauthen worked alongside the ETV Endowment to produce and purchase quality television programming that teaches, inspires, and reaches all segments of our population, and he was instrumental in the purchase and renovation of ETV's state-of-the-art telecommunications center; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and thank this truly gifted South Carolinian for his many years of distinguished service to the South Carolina Educational Television Network and the State of South Carolina as his career with ETV draws to a close. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly hereby commend Henry J. Cauthen, President of the South Carolina Educational Television Network, for his many years of outstanding service to educational television and the State of South Carolina upon his retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Cauthen.
