TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 8-1-210 SO AS TO REQUIRE ALL CANDIDATES FOR ELECTED OFFICE, INCLUDING INCUMBENTS, TO FILE THE SAME DOCUMENTS, AND TO REPEAL A PROVISION WHICH EXEMPTS AN INCUMBENT ELECTED OFFICIAL FROM REQUIREMENTS OTHER CANDIDATES MUST FILE TO QUALIFY FOR THE OFFICE.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 8-1-210. (A) All candidates for elected office in this State, including incumbents, must file the same documents to qualify for the office.
(B) Any provisions which exempt an incumbent elected official from requirements other candidates must file to qualify for office are repealed."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
