TO RECOGNIZE RAVENEL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OF SENECA, SOUTH CAROLINA, ITS PRINCIPAL, CATHY WATSON, AND ITS FACULTY, STAFF, PARENTS, AND STUDENTS FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS AND CONGRATULATING THEM FOR THEIR SCHOOL'S SELECTION AS A CAROLINA FIRST PALMETTO'S FINEST SCHOOL FOR 1996-97.

Whereas, Ravenel Elementary School is located in Seneca, South Carolina; and

Whereas, its principal, Cathy Watson, her faculty and staff, and the parents and students of Ravenel Elementary have known for a long time that their school is "Number One"; and

Whereas, some of the reasons for Ravenel Elementary's educational successes are its academic programs and its programs emphasizing life skills: how to get along, how to talk to each other, and how to make decisions; and

Whereas, the school also emphasizes technology, the arts, and hands-on learning in math and science; and

Whereas, the school enjoys the unqualified support of its parents, who see it as a place where their children are respected and encouraged to excel; and

Whereas, Carolina First Bank and the South Carolina Association of School Administrators agreed that Ravenel Elementary School is an exemplary school, tapping it as one of two elementary schools in the State to be honored as a "Palmetto's Finest" school. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina does hereby recognize Ravenel Elementary School of Seneca, South Carolina, its principal, Cathy Watson, and its faculty, staff, parents, and students for their outstanding educational achievements and congratulates them for their school's selection as a Carolina First Palmetto's Finest School for 1996-97.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Principal Cathy Watson on behalf of the Ravenel Elementary School family.
