A BILL

TO AMEND ARTICLE 3, CHAPTER 6, TITLE 23, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE HIGHWAY PATROL DIVISION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, BY ADDING SECTION 23-6-180 SO AS TO CREATE A HIGHWAY PATROL DISTRICT COMPOSED OF CHEROKEE, SPARTANBURG, AND UNION COUNTIES, AND TO REQUIRE THAT THE DISTRICT HEADQUARTERS, DISPATCH OFFICE, AND ALL AUXILIARY OPERATIONS LOCATE IN THE MOST POPULOUS COUNTY IN THE DISTRICT.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Article 3, Chapter 6, Title 23 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 23-6-180. The counties of Cherokee, Spartanburg, and Union constitute a single highway patrol district, and the district highway patrol headquarters, dispatch office, and all auxiliary operations must be located in the most populous county in the district created by this section."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
