TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 56-5-1005 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT RUMBLE STRIPS MUST BE INSTALLED AT CERTAIN TRAFFIC HIGHWAY INTERSECTIONS AND TO DEFINE RUMBLE STRIPS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 56-5-1005. (A) Before January 1, 2005, all highway intersections equipped with caution lights or stop signs and having an average daily traffic count of two thousand or more motor vehicles must have rumble strips installed in the lanes approaching the caution lights or stop signs.
(B) As contained in this section, rumble strips are devices used to alert a driver of a change in conditions ahead. Rumble strips must consist of sawed grooves in the pavement, a series of transverse grouped thermoplastic strips, or another means of creating a tire rumble effect."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
