A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND MRS. CHARLENE STUART FOR ALMOST THIRTY YEARS OF DEDICATION AND DEVOTION TO THE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA IN CHARLESTON.

Whereas, the members of the Senate have learned that Mrs. Charlene Stuart has decided to leave the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) after nearly three decades of loyal service; and

Whereas, Mrs. Stuart has made numerous contributions to the mission and growth of the Medical University; and

Whereas, Mrs. Stuart oversaw the reorganization of nursing services in 1988; and

Whereas, Mrs. Stuart became Vice President for Clinical Operations and CEO of the MUSC Medical Center in 1994; and

Whereas, Mrs. Stuart led the Medical Center through the aftermath of Hurricane Hugo in 1989; and

Whereas, Mrs. Stuart negotiated for improved Medicaid reimbursements for the Medical Center in 1990; and

Whereas, Mrs. Stuart was the first female Vice President at MUSC and the first representative from MUSC to be a member of the Association of American Medical Colleges; and

Whereas, Mrs. Stuart was named a "Woman of Valor" by the American Diabetes Association in 1995; and

Whereas, under Mrs. Stuart's leadership MUSC was named a "Top 100" hospital for the first time and a "top performer" in the areas of congestive heart failure, bone marrow transplant and kidney transplant; and

Whereas, Mrs. Stuart's extraordinary vision has advanced the growth of the Medical University of South Carolina above and beyond the expectation of its founders. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend Mrs. Charlene Stuart for almost thirty years of dedication and devotion to the Medical University of South Carolina and wish her well in her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Charlene Stuart.
