The House assembled at 10:00 A.M.
Deliberations were opened with prayer by the Chaplain of the House of Representatives, the Rev. Dr. Alton C. Clark as follows:
Eternal God, as we stand on the threshold of this new day, cause us to see it as a gift from Your good and gracious hand. Surrounded by demanding duties, inspire us to walk in Your paths and to work so as to meet Your approval. May we hear Your voice, feel the appeal of it, and respond to its call. Teach us the lesson that the past is past and we learn from it; that the present is now and may we live and labor in it for the good of Your people; may we see the future as a vision of hope, a dream of the realization of the best for all mankind. Hear us in this our prayer. Amen.
