A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND RETIRING GEORGETOWN COUNTY COUNCILMAN BILL NICHOLS FOR TWELVE YEARS OF OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AND PUBLIC SERVICE AS MEMBER AND CHAIRMAN OF THE GEORGETOWN COUNTY COUNCIL, TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR A JOB WELL DONE, AND WISH HIM WELL ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM PUBLIC SERVICE ON THE GEORGETOWN COUNTY COUNCIL.

Whereas, after years of hosting a roving radio show on which then Georgetown County Councilman Al Schooler was a frequent guest, Bill Nichols found his interest in county government had been peaked, did some soul searching, decided to run for and was elected to a seat on the Georgetown County Council; and

Whereas, taking office in January, 1987, Bill Nichols devoted much time and interest to county government and was soon recognized for his leadership skills and the ability to get things done, and was selected to serve as Chairman of the Georgetown County Council; and

Whereas, during his tenure on county council, the citizens and residents of Georgetown County have enjoyed unusual development, growth, and an orderly expansion and improvement of public services, including the fire department, emergency medical services, and the sheriff's department each tripling their staff in the past twelve years; and

Whereas, being on the coast, Georgetown County naturally depends upon tourism and recreational activities for jobs and economic growth, and under the leadership of Bill Nichols greatly improved beach access and the creation of new parks and recreational facilities while creating a healthy environment for development, business, and industry; and

Whereas, after twelve years of outstanding public service and leadership on the Georgetown County Council, Bill Nichols has decided to step aside and return to private life, and the members of the House of Representatives desire to recognize and thank him for his outstanding service. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend retiring Georgetown County Councilman Bill Nichols for twelve years of outstanding leadership and public service as member and chairman of the Georgetown County Council, and congratulate him for a job well done and wish him well on the occasion of his retirement from public service on the Georgetown County Council.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Bill Nichols of Georgetown.
