A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE SINCERE GRATITUDE AND APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE HONORABLE HECTOR FELIX RODRIQUEZ, MAYOR OF BURNETTOWN, SOUTH CAROLINA, WHO ORIGINATED THE IDEA AND PROMOTED THE CONCEPT OF CREATING THE HORSE CREEK/MIDLAND VALLEY VETERANS' PARK.

Whereas, the Honorable Hector Felix Rodriquez was first elected Mayor of Burnettown in 1988 and has served continuously since then; and

Whereas, Hector Felix Rodriquez was born in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico, on May 15, 1942; and

Whereas, as a young man, Hector Rodriquez entered the United States Army where he served honorably at Fort Gordon as a military policeman; and

Whereas, he married the former Judy Hall in 1968, and together they are proud parents of three children: son Hector and his wife, the former Jessica Borden, reside in Greenville; daughter Dana is married to Dink Bennet; and son Eric is engaged to Brenda Melton; and

Whereas, Mayor Rodriquez is committed to serving his fellow man and community through his service on numerous boards and organizations including: captain of the Bath Fire Department, which is comprised of volunteers; chairman of the Horse Creek/Midland Valley Chamber of Commerce; member of the Bath Masonic Lodge 263; past president of the Midland Valley Lions Club; and serves on the citizens advisory panel at Air Products and on the board of the Margaret Weston Clinic; and

Whereas, he is retired from J. M. Huber Corporation and currently substitutes as a teacher in Administrative Area 3 of the Aiken County School District; and

Whereas, Mayor Rodriquez has brought numerous positive changes to his community that include the institution of the court system in Burnettown; the Burnettown Police Department has grown from one part-time police officer to a full-time officer, three part-time officers, and a chief; brainchild of the Sassafras Festival which has grown every year since its origination, and when the Sassafras Park was proposed, he spearheaded that project and brought it to completion; and

Whereas, Mayor Rodriquez originated the idea of the Horse Creek/Midland Valley Veterans' Park, brought the concept to a receptive community, and shortly thereafter, a committee of concerned citizens was formed to carry out the work. He has spent countless hours writing grant applications, filling out paper work, and performing manual labor during the construction of the park; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize the contributions of such an excellent public servant and wish him the very best in all his future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives hereby express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Honorable Hector Felix Rodriquez, Mayor of Burnettown, South Carolina, who originated the idea and promoted the concept of creating the Horse Creek/Midland Valley Veterans' Park.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Hector Felix Rodriquez.
