TO OFFER THE CONGRATULATIONS AND SINCERE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO JACK ADKISON OF AIKEN COUNTY FOR HIS COMMITMENT, WORK, AND EFFORT IN ESTABLISHING HORSE CREEK/MIDLAND VALLEY VETERANS' PARK.
Whereas, Jack Adkison is a devoted and dedicated member of the VFW Gerald D. Kee Memorial Post 9164 of Clearwater, South Carolina, and graciously serves as the fund raising chairman of the Horse Creek/Midland Valley Veterans' Park Committee; and
Whereas, he has been a life-long resident of the Horse Creek/Midland Valley area which is located in Aiken County; and
Whereas, Ficklen "Buddy" and Lucy Adkison were blessed with the birth of their son, Jack Adkison, on November 16, 1933; and
Whereas, Jack Adkison honorably served his country in the United States Navy from1951 until 1955 and completed two world tours on the U.S.S. Douglas Fox during that time; and
Whereas, he married the former Glenda Boyd in 1962 and together they are proud parents of two sons. Chris and his wife, the former Sarah Hightower, reside in Elkhart, Indiana, along with their sons Luke and Jake, and Brian and his wife, the former Jan Whaley, and daughter Hannah and son Joshua reside in Langley; and
Whereas, Mr. Adkison is a retired union organizer and representative of the United Union of Roofers. He is a member of Painters Local Union 1756 and Roofers Local Union 176; and
Whereas, Jack Adkison has been deeply motivated and involved with POW-MIA activities because his beloved brother, Harold, had been missing in action since the early days of the Korean Conflict. Harold was a member of the 1st Airborne Ranger Company, which has made Jack an honorary member. He is also a member of R.I.K.A. (Rangers in Korea Association), American Legion L.B.C. Memorial Post 153, and the Aiken County Veterans Council; and
Whereas, Jack Adkison's leadership abilities and the respect shown him throughout the Christian, civic, and business communities, along with the large backing of labor organizations, has resulted in donations of labor and material valued in excess of over two hundred thousand dollars toward the construction of the park, which is a reflection of the love and regard in which he is held by many; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, along with the citizens of the Palmetto State, are delighted to have this opportunity to accord Jack Adkison the special recognition he so richly deserves for his work in seeing the park become a reality. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, offer their sincere appreciation and thanks to Jack Adkison of Aiken County for his commitment, work, and effort in establishing Horse Creek/Midland Valley Veterans' Park.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Jack Adkison.
