A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE HAMMOND SCHOOL BOYS BASEBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE 1999 CLASS AAA SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to learn that the Hammond School boys baseball team won the 1999 Class AAA South Carolina Independent Schools Association championship by defeating a fine Dorchester Academy squad and finished the season with an overall record of 17-7 and a SCISA record of 10-5; and

Whereas, Hammond capped its season by defeating the three top-ranked teams in SCISA and winning four out of five play-off games; and

Whereas, after reaching the state finals during the previous three years but not prevailing, this championship win shows that perseverance, hard work, and determination pay off; and

Whereas, under the able leadership of Head Coach Phil Sandifer and his capable staff, Hammond compiled its outstanding record during the 1999 season against the best group of teams in SCISA history; and

Whereas, the conduct of the Hammond players in the classroom and on and off the field this season has brought deserved credit not only upon them and their school but upon the City of Columbia and the State of South Carolina as well; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and congratulate the Hammond School Skyhawks boys baseball team upon its winning this truly deserved state championship. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly congratulate the Hammond School boys baseball team for winning the 1999 Class AAA South Carolina Independent Schools Association baseball championship and for an outstanding season against the best group of teams in SCISA history.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Phil Sandifer and to Dr. Herb Barks, Headmaster of Hammond School.
