A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 50-3-15 SO AS TO DESCRIBE AND PROVIDE FOR THE MISSION OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 50-3-15. The provisions of this section describe and provide for the mission of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, which shall be subject to specific provisions of law governing the applicable activities. The Department of Natural Resources shall be the advocate for and steward of the state's natural resources and shall be pro-active in protecting the state's natural resources for use and enjoyment by future generations of South Carolinians. The department shall develop and implement policies and programs for the conservation, management, utilization, and protection of the state's natural resources based upon scientifically sound resource assessment and monitoring, applied research, technology transfer, natural resources planning, public education, outreach, technical assistance, and customer involvement."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
