A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND WILLIAM T. (BILL) GREGORY FOR HIS EFFORTS IN ENCOURAGING INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT IN CLARENDON COUNTY AND SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON BEING DESIGNATED AN AMBASSADOR OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOR SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, on Thursday, May 20, 1999, Governor James H. Hodges and Commerce Secretary Charles S. Way, Jr. honored William T. (Bill) Gregory, General Manager of Land Promotions, Inc., at the Governor's Mansion, recognizing him as an Ambassador of Economic Development for South Carolina; and

Whereas, William T. (Bill) Gregory was nominated as ambassador for his efforts in encouraging industrial development in Clarendon County. A native of Greenwood, Gregory came to Manning in 1992 to develop Wyboo Plantation, a planned residential community which currently houses one hundred twenty-five families. The plantation not only brought jobs and an increased tax base to the community but also assisted county industrial recruitment efforts by providing executive level homes at affordable prices. Mr. Gregory was also instrumental in the construction of two golf courses which draw golfers from around the nation and Great Britain, further promoting Clarendon County; and

Whereas, as an indication of the State's continued economic success, a record setting $5.8 billion in capital investments was made by industries, and more than thirty-one thousand new jobs were added to the State in 1998. The ambassadors of economic development, citizens and leaders exemplified by men such as William T. (Bill) Gregory, represent existing businesses and industries in the Palmetto State in contributing capital investment for expansions and increased payrolls for new jobs; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Economic Developers Association sponsored the 1999 ambassadors in cooperation with the Department of Commerce. "Our State relies on our alliances with our existing companies. Our record breaking achievements are clearly the result of working with our economic ambassadors and their influence on industries seeking a new location. By contributing their time and talents, they improve their communities' infrastructure, create lasting partnerships, and enhance their communities' long-term prosperity," said Governor Hodges. "They are front door to our communities actively promoting the State as the best place to live and prosper a business," said the Governor on the occasion of Mr. Gregory being honored as an ambassador; and

Whereas, prominent among the citizens and leaders supporting and enabling men like Mr. Gregory to succeed as ambassadors are the members of the Clarendon County Development Board: Bobby Price, Chairman; John W. "Skip" Osborne, Immediate Past Chairman; Barry Ham, Vice Chairman; Robert H. Livingston, Secretary-Treasurer; William O. "Bill" Buyck, Randy Blackwell, August J. "G. G." Cutter, Barney Lee B. Morris, Thomas King, Linzy Washington, and the board's talented Executive Director, Donna West-Barnhill; and

Whereas, with every new job created and every investment in South Carolina announced, economic ambassadors such as William T. (Bill) Gregory are there making substantial and invaluable contributions of their time, talents, and treasures to assist in economic development. The members of the House of Representatives are therefore delighted to join in recognizing this fine man, Mr. William T. (Bill) Gregory, for his contribution to the economic development of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the members of the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend William T. (Bill) Gregory for his efforts in encouraging industrial development in Clarendon County and South Carolina and congratulate him on being designated an Ambassador of Economic Development for South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to William T. (Bill) Gregory.
