A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING MS. BETTY GILLIAM OF LANCASTER COUNTY FOR HER THIRTY-NINE YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS AN EDUCATOR, AND EXTENDING BEST WISHES TO HER FOR HAPPINESS FOLLOWING HER RETIREMENT.

Whereas, for thirty-nine years Ms. Betty Gilliam has rendered dedicated service as a teacher in the School District of Lancaster County; and

Whereas, she has provided excellent instruction, guidance, and leadership for the school children of her district; and

Whereas, Ms. Gilliam has always taken an active role in the community; she has served as a 4-H leader; she is past president of the South Carolina Multicultural Counseling Association; she is a member and past president of the Lancaster Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta; she has served as a member of the South Carolina Voter Registration and Election Commission; and, among numerous other activities of devoted service, she has also been a member of the Board of Directors of the Lancaster Children's Council; and

Whereas, Betty Gilliam, who is retiring from public education in 1999, is respected, admired, and loved by all who know her; she has served Lancaster County and the State of South Carolina in an excellent fashion for decades, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to recognize such an outstanding lady in this special manner. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognizes and commends Ms. Betty Gilliam of Lancaster County for her thirty-nine years of dedicated service as an educator and, further, extends best wishes to her for happiness following her retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Gilliam.
