EXPRESSING THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF THE HONORABLE CALVIN JOYNER, SR., OF LEE COUNTY, AND EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS WIFE, OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS, AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of the Honorable Calvin Joyner, Sr., of Lee County who died on May 24, 1999; and
Whereas, Mr. Joyner, born in Lee County, was the son of the late Ernest Lee Joyner and the late Connie McCaskill Joyner; and
Whereas, he was a Lee County Councilman from 1973 to 1990 and proudly served with fellow Councilmen Clyde N. Beasley, Sr., J. T. Smith, Jr., Hermin Felix, Sr., W. R. Alexander, Jr., A. C. McCaskill, Jr., Joe Arledge, Malachi Wilson, and Grady A. Brown, Sr.; and
Whereas, Mr. Joyner was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church; and
Whereas, he was a member of the Board of Directors of Cassatt Water Company; and
Whereas, Mr. Joyner was a merchant, a retired farmer, a Mason, and a Shriner; and
Whereas, he was married to Jewel Brady Joyner, and together they reared a daughter, Beverly Johnson, and a son, John Joyner, Jr.; and
Whereas, Mr. Joyner was respected, admired, and loved in Lee County and throughout South Carolina, and he will be greatly missed; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives want Mr. Joyner's widow, his other family members, and his many friends to know that they are uppermost in their thoughts and have the members' deepest sympathy. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express profound sorrow upon the death of the Honorable Calvin Joyner, Sr., and extend deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Mr. Calvin Joyner, Sr..
