COMMENDING THE REVEREND DR. DOROTHY L. PEARSON OF RICHLAND COUNTY ON HER FORTY-ONE YEARS AS PASTOR OF MOUNT OLIVE BAPTIST CHURCH AND FOR HER MANY YEARS OF SPREADING THE GOSPEL THROUGHOUT THIS NATION.
Whereas, the Reverend Dr. Dorothy L. Pearson, theologian and evangelist, is the founder and Pastor of the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Richland County; and
Whereas, Dr. Pearson was born in Dublin, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Henry and Cynthia Love, and was called by God to preach the Gospel at an early age; and
Whereas, upon moving to Columbia, South Carolina, she attended Starks Theological Seminary at Benedict College, currently is a student at Liberty University, and is the recipient of Doctor of Divinity and Doctor of Humane Letters degrees; and
Whereas, Ebony magazine has referred to Dr. Pearson as one of the greatest preachers of the Gospel of our day; and
Whereas, she has received numerous honors and awards for humanitarian work which include the Certificate of Appreciation bestowed upon her by former Governor Carroll Campbell, Jr., in 1987, and the "Order of the Palmetto", which was presented to her by former Governor Campbell in 1991; and
Whereas, Dr. Pearson has served as an evangelist, lecturer, revivalist, and Gospel preacher throughout this nation; and
Whereas, she is a member of the Gethsemane Association, the State Baptist Convention, and the Progressive National Baptist Convention; and
Whereas, this year marks her forty-first year of service as Pastor of Mount Olive Baptist Church; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly would like to publicly recognize this great daughter of South Carolina for her many years of dedicated service to humanity and toward spreading the Gospel throughout this nation. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly do hereby congratulate the Reverend Dr. Dorothy L. Pearson on her forty-one years of faithful service as Pastor of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Richland County, and commend her for her many years of humanitarian service to the people of South Carolina and this nation.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Pearson.
