A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MRS. ADA S. COOPER OF LEE COUNTY ON THE HAPPY OCCASION OF HER NINETY-SEVENTH BIRTHDAY (TUESDAY, JUNE 15, 1999) AND COMMEND AND THANK HER FOR HER DEDICATED SERVICE FOR MANY YEARS TO THE CITIZENS OF HER COMMUNITY AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Mrs. Ada S. Cooper was born on June 15, 1902, in Lee County; and

Whereas, she received a sixth grade education in the Lee County public school system; and

Whereas, in 1917, at the age of fifteen, she married Mr. Perry Cooper and remained happily married to him for forty-four years until his death in 1961; and

Whereas, Mrs. Cooper and her husband reared twelve children and were blessed with forty-eight grandchildren and thirty-three great grandchildren; and

Whereas, she spent many years as a sharecropper in Lee and Sumter Counties, and has been blessed with the ability to tell interesting stories which revolve around her role as a farmer's wife, sharecropper, and mother; and

Whereas, Mrs. Cooper has been involved in the farming industry throughout her life, and her many years of labor, faithfulness, and dedication to farming have contributed to the growth and success of this industry in South Carolina; and

Whereas, she has been a member of the St. Mark Baptist Church throughout her entire life where she serves as a member of the Missionary Society and as a Deaconess; and

Whereas, Mrs. Cooper is a member of Joint Stock Lodge No. 2 and the Browntown Senior Citizens Group; and

Whereas, she deserves the sincerest thanks for all of her contributions and her dedicated service on the happy occasion of her ninety-seventh birthday (Tuesday, June 15, 1999). Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Mrs. Ada S. Cooper of Lee County on the happy occasion of her ninety-seventh birthday (Tuesday, June 15, 1999) and commend and thank her for her dedicated service for many years to the citizens of her community and the State of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Ada S. Cooper.
