A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 12-37-220, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTIONS, SO AS TO EXTEND TO THE EXEMPTION ALLOWED NOT MORE THAN TWO MOTOR VEHICLES OWNED OR LEASED BY A PERSON CONFINED TO A WHEELCHAIR TO THAT PERSON'S SURVIVING SPOUSE, TO LIMIT THE SURVIVING SPOUSE EXEMPTION TO ONE VEHICLE, AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE EXEMPTION ENDS ON THE REMARRIAGE OF THE SPOUSE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 12-37-220(B)(27) of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 125 of 1995, is further amended to read:

"(27) Two personal motor vehicles, owned or leased either solely or jointly by persons required to use wheelchairs, who qualify for special license tags under the provisions of Section 56-3-1910. This exemption also extends to one motor vehicle owned or leased by the surviving spouse of the person required to use a wheelchair for the lifetime or until the remarriage of the surviving spouse."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
