A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 8-11-225, SO AS TO DIRECT THE OFFICE OF HUMAN RESOURCES OF THE STATE BUDGET AND CONTROL BOARD TO ADJUST THE SALARY RANGES IN THE STATE COMPENSATION PLAN TO ENSURE THAT ALL SALARIES PROVIDED IN THE PLAN ARE ABOVE THE FEDERAL POVERTY MEASURE FOR A FAMILY OF FOUR AS CALCULATED AND ANNUALLY ADJUSTED BY THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Article 3, Chapter 11, Title 8 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 8-11-225. The Office of Human Resources of the State Budget and Control Board shall adjust the salary ranges in the state compensation plan as necessary to ensure that all salaries provided in the plan are above the poverty level measure for a family of four as calculated and annually adjusted by the United States Department of Health and Human Services."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor and applies for salaries paid after June 30, 2000.
